About This Position

Ditch Witch of Roanokeis hiring mechanics to join our service team. We're a family-owned underground utility construction equipment dealer with over 40 years in business. We've been rated the #1 customer-rated service department worldwide in the Ditch Witch organization.

We work on directional drills, trenchers, vacuum excavators, and other underground construction equipment. This is NOT engine work— you'll be diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and equipment with up to 5 onboard computers.

We're looking for problem-solvers who can think their way through a diagnosis, not just parts-changers waiting to be told what to do.

What You'll Do

Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, transmissions, drivetrains, and electrical systems
Use laptop-based diagnostic software to troubleshoot computer-controlled equipment
Perform preventive maintenance and inspections
Work independently on multi-day repair projects
Collaborate with team members and management when needed

What We Offer

$20 - $35/hour depending on experience

100% employer-paid health insurance after 90 days (you pay $0)

Weekly pay

Overtime available (not mandatory)

Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM (no weekends, no on-call)

Paid holidays + extra days around Thanksgiving and Christmas

1 week paid vacation after 1 year (negotiable for experienced hires)

Paid sick days

Factory training trips to Oklahoma (flights, hotel, meals paid)

Laptop and diagnostic software provided

Specialty tools provided (you bring basic hand tools)

Clear path for advancement into sales, service management, or parts

What We're Looking For

Valid driver's license (required)
2+ years mechanic experience (auto, diesel, heavy equipment, agricultural, or industrial)
Basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, sockets — we're not asking for a $50K Snap-On box)
Critical thinking skills — ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently
Reliability — show up on time, every day
Willingness to learn — we'll train you on our equipment

Nice to Have (Not Required)

Heavy equipment experience (CAT, John Deere, Bobcat, Case, etc.)Hydraulic or electrical diagnostic experienceDiesel mechanic backgroundMilitary vehicle maintenance experience

Location Requirement

Must live within 30 minutes of Salem, VA. This includes Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Glenvar, and surrounding areas.
